Maras Taun Festival at Belitung

"Maras Taun" is a feast of celebration and harvest festival organized by the Malays in Belitung, or other small islands around Belitung. The word "maras" in Belitung means "Cut", the word "Taun" is the "Year". Maras Taun held for 1 year, after the harvest of rice planted in fields (Oryza Montana).

“MARAS TAUN MENDANAU'S ISLAND”
For the residents of the island Mendanau, rice is the staple food source. Trade rice / rice eventually make connections between people from one island to another. The festival is enlivened from the fishermen who will also accompany the farmers. Farmers celebrate the harvest from their fields, the fishermen celebrate their success in finding fish in the sea.
“LEPAT”
Before the harvest festival, the community gathering rice (which they mashed), then the rice was cooked into "lepat". Lepat is a kind of cake made of steamed brown rice, sometimes filled with chunks of fish and wrapped with young foliage.
