Remembering Veris "Mahar" Yamarno

Belitung Island, became well-known and recognized as a regional tourist destination, due to the success of the novel Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata were made into a movie by Mizan Cinema and Miles Production. It also can not be separated from the success of the cast playing a character-by-character, especially children who become Laskar Pelangi.

The sad news, heard on January 12, 2015. Where one of the cast of the film Laskar Pelangi, the Veris Yamarno died due to illness. Veris Yamarno is cast "Mahar", which successfully animate the character of our imagination of the readers of the novel Laskar Pelangi. In this paper, I just want to remember a glimpse of how the "Mahar" I know, especially during the passage of the first shooting.

“GANTONG'S VILLAGER, WITH NATURAL TALENT”

First met with Verrys "Mahar" Yamarno, during the process of casting Laskar Pelangi, where we have to pick and choose 11 people (Laskar Pelangi + A Ling) from thousands of candidates. In the first glance, I was immediately interested (as well as other team members) because this child has radiant eyes, and charisma to match. Veris Yamarno found in the school when it was in one of the schools in the subdistrict Gantong. He is not shy about being photographed with a pocket camera carried by the team, and became one of the children who discussed, when the photos were seen again.

The next casting, which is done in the building of an elementary school, Tanjungpandan. When arrived at the place, I was surprised to see Veris, which directly swiftly climbing former basketball hoop pole in the school. In accordance with my expectations for a candidate Mahar actor, he does look more active, confident tall, outgoing, and have a high speed in memorizing the script. Same with a partner who becomes "Lintang", ie Ferdian. Two guys prove, that talent does not grow like acne (such as excerpts from Andrea Hirata), and can be found in places that are sometimes beyond our own expectations. Veris is a "village children" were never provided by the subjects acting like kids in a big city, but he was able to play with a good script. He also has the ability of other arts such as making a song or sing.

“LITTLE TROUBLE-MAKER”

After the casting process and coaching that takes approximately 3 months, as expected we all ... Veris Yamarno elected. Finally I alone must one home with them, the entire cast of Laskar Pelangi (male - except Harun). The interesting thing during the shooting of a lot going on. Although sometimes exhausted, but Veris never miss a smile and ideas to bully his friends (Zulfani Pasa (Ikal), Ferdian (Lintang), Suhendri (A Kiong) etc.). Once there was an incident where Verrys and Laskar Pelangi kids pretending to be us - the crew, in the middle of shooting. Still feels and clear in memory, I laughed out loud see Veris Mahar holding cunghai (Belitung traditional flip flops), and making it a handy talky as though busy as road safety crew.

“SEROJA”

Unlike the "Bollywood", which the actors must be in dubbing the melodious voice of a professional singer to cover their singing abilities. Veris Yamarno aka Mahar, sang his own song of the ancient Malay. Veris sing the shooting scene done quickly, ranging from late afternoon until just before sunset. Arguably, not too many scenes were repeated, Mr. Riri Riza as a director is not too often say "Cutto". Veris Yamarno indeed highly appreciate this song, and even memorized the song before he knew about the film Laskar Pelangi. I've also been scolded by him, in a tourist beach in Belitung, because of wrong in using the accord song called "Seroja". At that time we were on a break when the last photo shoot for casting.  ... Really feel lost. Heard that he died, the heart feels cut with past experiences when I was with him. Last meeting, was in 2012 where Veris Yamarno and his father visited my office (Radio Voice of Belitung, and Belitung Imaji (Imagine) Tour). At that time, he had a two-hour broadcast - we joke with each other, no matter the age difference.

Verrys Yamarno last time expressed his dream to me, he could hope to be an artist, actor, or one of the best singers in Indonesia. I believe, I give him the motivation to continue forward, although it became a star who survived the sparkling rays, sometimes very difficult. Now, that dream sweet memories that stay in mind - shed a tear on the cheek. GOODBYE, MY BRO, GOODBYE.
